In 2021, Shakes designed the Storm Controller for Cooler Master’s Cloud Gaming, creating a versatile peripheral that seamlessly connects to multiple devices, from PCs to mobile phones, for on-demand gaming anywhere, anytime. Leveraging an existing upper shell, our team developed a unique CMF strategy for the rubber elements, added an ergonomic lower grip, and introduced an innovative “fluid” D-pad with a hybrid structure to enhance precision and reduce player fatigue.

DESIGNED FOR CLOUD GAMING

In collaboration with Cooler Master, we designed a controller optimized for cloud gaming, enabling users to seamlessly switch between multiple devices such as PC, TV, and mobile, while ensuring a smooth gaming experience across platforms.

ANTI-BLISTER D-PAD DESIGN

The design emphasizes subtle yet distinctive details, such as the custom Anti-Blister D-Pad, Joystick Rubber, and Controller Grip, all with dedicated Cooler Master brand patterns. These refinements contribute to a well-rounded, function-driven product, underscoring Cooler Master’s commitment to premium performance at an entry-level price point.

ATTENTION TO DETAILS

A bespoke texture plate was commissioned to emboss a uniquely crafted Cooler Master pattern onto the rubber grips, ensuring a distinct tactile experience. Additionally, another Cooler Master texture, featuring a dissected Cooler Master Halo, was specifically designed for the joystick rubber, further enhancing grip and control during gameplay.

MATERIAL DESIGN & ERGONOMICS

Designing the ergonomics of Cooler Master Motion 1 presented a unique challenge. While it’s far from your average chair, it still needed to perform like one. To achieve this, Motion 1 offers an extensive range of adjustments, ensuring users can maintain the ideal 90-degree knee angle for proper posture. Our team of designers and engineers rigorously tested and prototyped each aspect, perfecting every curve and contour of the 3D sculpted foam for optimal comfort, balanced pressure distribution, and sustained support during immersive haptic experiences.

Motion 1 takes comfort further with its magnetic headrest and lumbar pillows—both adjustable in height and easily removable for personalized support. Adjustable armrests ensure users can find their ideal positioning, catering to various body types and preferences.

For the upholstery, we selected Cooler Master’s “Cool-in” Fabric Technology, which incorporates jade particles and microscopic star-shaped yarn. This material keeps the chair feeling 1-2°C cooler than standard gaming chairs, adding a touch of luxury and ensuring durability.
